Big Brother & Big Sister Mouse Explore Berlin
Berlin is a city of contrasts.
Grand historic buildings sit alongside colourful street art. Beautiful green spaces open up between busy streets, while stories from the past appear around almost every corner.
And for two very small travellers, there are also plenty of places to climb, hide and explore.
Big Brother and Big Sister Maileg Mouse have arrived in Berlin, Germany — and this Mouse House Adventure turned out to be one of their most unusual yet.
A Tiny View of Berlin
Their Berlin adventure began rather appropriately amongst the miniatures.
For two Maileg mice, a miniature city is a wonderful place to explore. Suddenly the buildings are almost the right size, the streets feel made for tiny paws and Big Brother and Big Sister can disappear amongst the rooftops as though they belong there.
It is one of our favourite things about travelling with the mice.
A place that looks miniature to us can become an entire world to them.
Meeting a Giant Nutcracker
Of course, being tiny also means that ordinary things can become enormous.
And then there was the Nutcracker.
Standing beside him wasn't enough for Big Brother and Big Sister.
Before long, they were climbing their way up the giant Nutcracker, finding little places to sit and enjoying the view from somewhere they probably weren't supposed to be.
Some Mouse House Adventures are carefully planned.
Others happen because two little mice see something enormous and decide they simply have to climb it.
A Quiet Moment at Berlin Cathedral
After all that climbing, it was time for something a little more peaceful.
The mice stopped on the beautiful green lawns outside Berlin Cathedral, looking up at its magnificent green dome.
For such tiny travellers, the Berliner Dom must have seemed impossibly grand.
It was one of those lovely travel moments that needed very little else — two mice, green grass and one of Berlin's most recognisable buildings rising above them.
A Rather Giant Red Le Creuset
Then the mice found something completely unexpected.
A giant red Le Creuset.
Naturally, it had to be investigated.
Standing beside the enormous red pot, Big Brother and Big Sister looked particularly tiny.
Although we suspect Pudding would have been far more interested in discovering whether anything delicious was cooking inside. 🐱
It is often these silly, unexpected discoveries that become some of our favourite photographs from a Mouse House Adventure.
The Famous Kissing Mural
Berlin also gave the mice a chance to discover a little of the city's history.
At the East Side Gallery, Big Brother and Big Sister stopped beneath one of Berlin's most recognisable works of street art — the famous kissing mural painted on a surviving section of the Berlin Wall.
Two very little mice standing beneath a very big piece of history.
It was quite a contrast to the miniature worlds and giant Nutcracker of earlier in their adventure.
But that is part of what makes Berlin so fascinating.
Historic and modern.
Serious and playful.
Grand buildings and colourful street art.
Often all within the same day.
Berlin Through Little Eyes
Travelling with Big Brother and Big Sister Mouse has a funny way of making us notice things we might otherwise walk straight past.
A giant Nutcracker becomes something to climb.
A miniature city becomes somewhere to hide.
A red cooking pot becomes enormous.
A patch of lawn becomes the perfect place to stop and admire a cathedral.
And a famous mural becomes an opportunity to discover a little piece of Berlin's history.
Perhaps that's what we love most about Mouse House Adventures.
The destination may be real, but seeing it through little eyes adds another layer of imagination.

Little Discovery
The East Side Gallery stretches along a surviving section of the Berlin Wall and became an open-air gallery after the fall of the Wall.
Among its many artworks is the famous kissing mural that Big Brother and Big Sister discovered during their Berlin adventure.

But every Mouse House Adventure reminds us that the destination is only half the story.
The real magic is found in slowing down, sharing the journey with the people we love and seeing familiar places through little eyes.
