Our Story

About eight years ago, Mouse House Collective owner Toni and her daughter Ruby fell in love with the whimsical world of Maileg.

What began with a single little mouse slowly grew into a treasured family collection filled with magical memories, imaginative play and timeless Scandinavian charm. Over the years, their love for Maileg became much more than collecting miniature treasures — it became part of their family traditions and the way they created special moments together.

In the beginning, the collection started very simply, with each family member choosing a mouse that felt meaningful to them. Toni chose a nurse mouse, Phoebe — who is a paramedic — chose a mouse with a little wooden ambulance and Ruby chose a Little Sister mouse with a yellow skirt that she still remembers so fondly today.

As the collection slowly grew, their tiny mouse family found a home inside an old wooden bookcase at home. What started as a simple shelf for a few treasured mice gradually transformed into a magical little Mouse House filled with miniature furniture, tiny accessories, seasonal displays and imaginative storytelling spaces. Over time, the old bookcase itself was lovingly renovated and became part of the collection’s story.

Today, the bookcase — now affectionately known within the family as the “Mouse Mansion” — sits proudly in their lounge room, filled with years of memories and carefully collected little treasures.

One of the family’s favourite traditions now takes place each Christmas Eve, where a new Maileg piece is added to the collection each year. What started as a small family tradition has become something deeply nostalgic and meaningful — a reminder that the smallest treasures often create the most lasting memories.

Mouse House Collective was created from that same passion for imaginative storytelling, timeless childhood memories and slow, meaningful play.

Inspired by Scandinavian and Nordic interiors, Mouse House Collective is designed to feel warm, nostalgic and beautifully curated rather than like a traditional toy store. We believe childhood should feel magical and timeless — where little worlds are built slowly over time, collections become family heirlooms and imagination is encouraged through thoughtful play.

We also love that creating a Mouse House does not require an official dollhouse. Shelves, vintage cabinets, timber bookcases and miniature 1:12 scale treasures can all become part of a magical little world unique to each family.

Whether you are beginning your very first Mouse House, searching for the perfect heirloom gift or continuing a treasured family tradition of your own, we are so grateful to be part of your journey.

Welcome to Mouse House Collective — a little world of imagination, storytelling and timeless childhood magic.
