Mouse vs Miniature in the Laundry

Welcome back to Mouse House Sizing School, where our very helpful Maid Mouse, approximately 15 cm tall, helps us make sense of the sometimes slightly confusing world of Maileg sizing.

Today, we're heading into the laundry.

We're comparing the Mouse and Miniature washing machines and ironing boards, taking a closer look at the Miniature bucket, mop and broom set and seeing where the Maileg vacuum cleaner fits into it all.

As always, these are real side-by-side comparisons photographed here at Mouse House Collective.

The simplest way to remember Maileg furniture sizing is:

Mouse is smaller.

Miniature is bigger.

After that, use the photographs and descriptions on each product.

Because, as you're about to see, we don't always follow the rules in our own Mouse House either.

Mouse vs Miniature Washing Machine 🫧

Placed side by side with Maid Mouse, the difference between the two Maileg washing machines is easy to see.

The Mouse washing machine is the smaller of the two and is beautifully proportioned for Maileg mice.

It's a natural choice for the Mouse Hole Farmhouse or another mouse-sized setting.

The Miniature washing machine is considerably larger.

Its proportions make it particularly lovely in the House of Miniature and alongside Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2.

But does that mean the Miniature washing machine can't live in a Mouse House?

Not at all.

In fact, the washing machine in our own Mouse House is the Miniature version.

We have a rather busy household of mice, so somehow a larger family-sized washing machine feels completely appropriate.

Yes, it's bigger than the traditional Mouse scale, but once it's sitting in our laundry, it doesn't look out of place to us at all.

We actually prefer it.

Our Mouse House verdict 🐭

For the Mouse Hole Farmhouse and a traditionally scaled mouse home, the Mouse washing machine is the natural choice.

For the House of Miniature and Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2, we'd choose the Miniature washing machine.

But if you like the look of a larger family washing machine in your Mouse House, don't be afraid to use the Miniature version.

We do.

And we love it.

Mouse vs Miniature Ironing Board 👚

The ironing boards are a different story.

Placed beside Maid Mouse, there's a considerable difference between the Mouse and Miniature versions.

The Mouse ironing board feels beautifully proportioned for the mice.

It's the one we use in our own Mouse House.

The Miniature ironing board is much larger and, unlike our washing machine, this is one piece where we personally find the difference in scale difficult to disguise.

Beside a mouse, it really does look very big.

That doesn't make it the wrong size. It simply belongs more naturally in a different Maileg world.

The Miniature ironing board is a lovely fit for the House of Miniature and Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2.

Our Mouse House verdict 🐭

For Maileg mice and the Mouse Hole Farmhouse, we'd choose the Mouse ironing board.

For the House of Miniature and Size 1 and 2 rabbits and bunnies, we'd choose the Miniature ironing board.

For us, this is one piece where Mouse size really does look better with the mice.

What About the Miniature Bucket, Mop & Broom? 🪣🧹

Now we arrive at a very good example of why Mouse House Sizing School is a guide rather than a rule book.

The Maileg bucket, mop and broom belong to the Miniature range.

They're a natural fit for the House of Miniature and Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2.

We use them with our mice anyway.

Is the mop really too big for Maid Mouse?

Yes.

It definitely is.

But we like it.

The broom and bucket are generous in size too, but once they're tucked into our busy little Mouse House laundry, we don't mind the difference in scale.

Sometimes you see a Maileg piece, love it and decide your mice are having it anyway.

Our mice apparently require a rather enormous mop.

And we're perfectly happy with that. 🐭🤍

Our Mouse House verdict 🐭

For the House of Miniature and Size 1 and 2 rabbits and bunnies, these Miniature cleaning accessories are a natural choice.

For mice, they're oversized — particularly the mop.

But if you like them in your Mouse House, use them.

We do.

What About the Maileg Vacuum Cleaner?

The Maileg vacuum cleaner is one of those wonderfully versatile pieces that works comfortably across both Maileg worlds.

Placed beside Maid Mouse, it works well with the mice without feeling overwhelmingly large.

It can happily live in the Mouse Hole Farmhouse or another mouse-sized home.

Move it into the House of Miniature and it works there too.

Its proportions also suit Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2.

This makes the vacuum cleaner particularly useful if your collection includes a mixture of Maileg characters or, like us, you don't always keep Mouse and Miniature pieces strictly separated.

Our Mouse House verdict 🐭

Mice and the Mouse Hole Farmhouse — yes.

Size 1 and 2 rabbits and bunnies and the House of Miniature — yes again.

The vacuum cleaner is one of those useful Maileg pieces that can happily move between both worlds.

A Peek Inside Our Own Mouse House Laundry 🐭

Our own laundry probably explains our approach to Maileg sizing better than any sizing chart could.

We use:

🐭 Mouse ironing board

🫧 Miniature washing machine

🪣 Miniature bucket

🧹 Miniature mop and broom

✨ Maileg vacuum cleaner

Technically, we're mixing Maileg scales.

The washing machine is larger than a traditionally scaled mouse appliance.

The mop really is too big.

The Mouse ironing board, on the other hand, is exactly the size we prefer beside our mice.

And the vacuum cleaner happily works across both Mouse and Miniature worlds.

Yet when they're all together in the room, it works for us.

It simply looks like a busy little family laundry.

And that's ultimately what matters.

Mouse Hole Farmhouse or House of Miniature?

Mouse Hole Farmhouse 🐭

The Mouse Hole Farmhouse is designed around Maileg mice, so Mouse-size furniture will generally give you the most natural proportions.

For the laundry, the Mouse washing machine and Mouse ironing board are the obvious starting points.

The vacuum cleaner also works beautifully with the mice.

The Miniature bucket, mop and broom are noticeably larger — particularly that enormous mop — but that doesn't mean you can't use them if you love them.

And as our own Mouse House demonstrates, even the Miniature washing machine can work surprisingly well in a busy mouse household.

House of Miniature 🐰

The House of Miniature gives you more room and is beautifully suited to the larger Miniature furniture.

It's also a lovely scale for Maileg rabbits and bunnies in Sizes 1 and 2.

Here, the Miniature washing machine, Miniature ironing board, bucket, mop and broom feel naturally proportioned alongside the larger characters.

And the vacuum cleaner works here too.

So, Which Maileg Furniture Size Should You Choose?

Start with one very simple rule:

Mouse is smaller. Miniature is bigger.

After that, use the photographs.

Look at each piece beside our approximately 15 cm Maid Mouse and think about the space you're furnishing, the characters in your collection and the little hands that will be playing with them.

If you have Size 1 or 2 rabbits and bunnies, the larger Miniature pieces are generally a lovely scale for them.

If you're creating a tiny world around your mice, you may naturally gravitate towards the smaller Mouse pieces.

But don't be afraid to mix them.

We certainly do.

Sometimes the technically correct size isn't the one that looks best in your Mouse House.

And sometimes a mouse simply deserves an enormous bathtub and an oversized lamp.

Or, apparently, a very large mop.

That's part of the fun.

Creating Your Own Little Maileg World 🤍

One of the loveliest things about Maileg is that a collection can grow slowly.

It might begin with one mouse and a bed.

Then comes a kitchen. A bathtub. A lamp beside the bed. A couch for afternoon tea. A pram waiting by the door.

Birthdays and Christmases add another little piece, and eventually those individual pieces become a whole world filled with familiar characters and stories.
