Mouse House Adventure #6 | Venice, Italy
Adventure #6
Big Brother & Big Sister Mouse Explore Venice
They've made it to Italy.
After travelling across Europe, Big Brother and Big Sister Mouse have arrived in Italy — and their first stop is the magical city of Venice.
And this is one city that needs very little introduction.
There are canals instead of roads, gondolas gliding quietly across the water and narrow streets that seem to twist and turn in every direction.
For two very small travellers, Venice felt as though it had been made for exploring.

Welcome to Venice
There is something quite extraordinary about arriving in Venice.
The familiar sounds of cars and traffic disappear and suddenly the city seems to move at a completely different pace.
Boats make their way along the waterways.
Gondolas drift beneath old bridges.
Beautiful buildings rise directly from the canals.
And somewhere amongst it all, two little Maileg mice began their final European adventure.
After Budapest's castles and old-world romance, Venice seemed like the perfect place for their Italian to start.

Getting Lost in the Little Streets
One of the loveliest things about Venice is that you don't always know where you're going.
The streets become narrower.
A little passageway leads to another.
You turn a corner expecting to find a street and instead discover a tiny bridge crossing a canal.
For Big Brother and Big Sister, this was exactly their kind of city.
There were doorways to investigate, steps to climb and endless little corners where two mice could stop and watch the world go by.
Sometimes getting a little lost is part of the adventure.
And in Venice, it might just be the best part.

A City of Canals
Then, of course, there are the canals.
They appear everywhere.
Wide waterways filled with boats and smaller canals tucked quietly between beautiful old buildings.
For two mice who have travelled by plane, train, scooter and trike on their European adventure, a city where almost everything happens on the water was something entirely new.
Big Brother and Big Sister found plenty of places to sit beside the canals and watch the boats pass.
It is difficult to imagine Venice without them.
The water isn't simply part of the city.
It is the city.

Watching the Gondolas
No Mouse House Adventure in Venice would be complete without finding a gondola.
Long, elegant and unmistakably Venetian, the gondolas moved quietly through the canals while Big Brother and Big Sister watched from the edge of the water.
Some disappeared beneath bridges.
Others slipped through narrow waterways between centuries-old buildings.
For two tiny travellers, they must have seemed like the most wonderful way to explore.
Although we're fairly certain Big Brother would have wanted to have a turn at steering.

Around Every Corner
Venice is one of those places where the journey between the famous sights can be just as beautiful as the sights themselves.
A weathered doorway.
Laundry hanging high above a narrow street.
Flowers spilling from a window box.
A tiny bridge.
An old building reflected in the water.
Another gondola quietly passing by.
Travelling with Big Brother and Big Sister has taught us to notice these little things.
Perhaps that is why Venice suited them so well.
It is a city filled with small details waiting to be discovered.

The Italian Adventure Begins 🤎
There have been quite a few adventures since Big Brother and Big Sister packed their little suitcase and set off across Europe.
Different cities.
Famous landmarks.
Castles and cathedrals.
Trikes and scooters.
Unexpected discoveries.
And more than a few places that two little mice probably weren't supposed to climb.
Now, here they are in Italy.
And Venice is only the beginning.
There are still more Italian adventures waiting, with Rome and the beautiful Amalfi Coast yet to come.
But for now, there are narrow streets to wander, bridges to cross and gondolas to watch as they begin the final chapter of their European travels.
No map required.
Just narrow streets, little bridges and the occasional gondola passing by.

Venice Through Little Eyes
Venice feels almost like a miniature world already.
Narrow streets twist between beautiful old buildings, little bridges appear around unexpected corners and canals take the place of roads.
Perhaps that's why two Maileg mice seemed so perfectly at home here.
For Big Brother and Big Sister, Venice wasn't about rushing from one famous sight to another.
It was about wandering.
Getting a little lost.
Stopping beside the water to watch the gondolas glide past.
And wondering what might be waiting around the next corner.
There is something rather magical about a city that encourages you to simply explore.
Venice has been a beautiful beginning to their Italian adventure.
But there is still plenty more to discover.
Next stop: Rome.
