The good news is that this one is a little easier to understand.

The Mouse Hole Farmhouse has been created for the Maileg mice, so Mouse-size furniture and accessories are the natural place to start.

Micro Bunnies and Rabbits can also join the Mouse House world, while some pieces from outside the Mouse furniture range may work beautifully too.

That's where Maileg sizing can become a little confusing.

So, welcome back to Mouse House Sizing School. We're going to show you what fits, what to look for and how to choose pieces for your Mouse Hole Farmhouse with a little more confidence.

Meet the Maileg Mouse Hole Farmhouse

The Mouse Hole Farmhouse is a wonderfully detailed home created especially for the Maileg mouse family.

Unlike the larger House of Miniature, the rooms of the Mouse Hole Farmhouse are designed around the smaller scale of the mice.

That makes it a lovely starting point if your Maileg collection is primarily made up of Big Sister, Big Brother, Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and all their little mouse friends.

Micro Bunnies and Rabbits can also make themselves at home here.

And you certainly don't need to furnish the whole farmhouse at once.

Start with a bed.

Perhaps a kitchen comes next.

Someone eventually decides they need a bath.

Then a couch, a lamp, a little table and chairs...

Before you know it, every room has its own story.

What Furniture Fits in the Maileg Mouse Hole Farmhouse?

If you're furnishing your Mouse Hole Farmhouse, the easiest place to begin is with Maileg Mouse furniture.

Mouse furniture — YES

This is the furniture we would look at first.

Mouse beds, chairs, tables, kitchens, bathroom pieces and other furniture designed around the Maileg mice generally feel most naturally proportioned inside the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

Micro Bunnies and Rabbits — YES

Micro Bunnies and Rabbits can also live and play in the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

Their small size means they can comfortably join the mice and are a lovely option if your Maileg family includes both mice and Bunnies or Rabbits.

Miniature furniture — CHECK THE INDIVIDUAL PIECE

Miniature furniture belongs to the larger side of the Maileg world, so don't assume every Miniature piece will fit comfortably inside the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

But don't automatically rule it out either.

There are some larger pieces we love mixing into the Mouse world. The Miniature lamps, for example, are particularly lovely with the mice, although we are still testing which pieces work best within the actual rooms of the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

This is exactly why we recommend checking each piece individually rather than relying on the words Mouse, Micro or Miniature alone.

Maileg Mice — YES

Absolutely.

The Mouse Hole Farmhouse is their world.

Different members of the Maileg mouse family can live together throughout the farmhouse, creating bedrooms, living spaces, kitchens and all sorts of tiny everyday adventures.

Mouse Furniture vs Miniature Furniture

This is one of the most useful things to understand when furnishing the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

Mouse furniture is generally the smaller scale.

Miniature furniture is generally larger.

But Maileg sizing isn't always as simple as the name printed on the tag.

Some pieces cross between the different worlds beautifully, while others can look noticeably oversized.

That's exactly why we created Mouse House Sizing School.

With a little help from Maid Mouse, we're photographing Mouse and Miniature pieces side by side so you can actually see the difference before deciding which one belongs in your house.

Because sometimes measurements on a screen simply don't tell the whole story.

What About Maileg Food and Accessories?

This is another little Maileg sizing quirk worth knowing.

Not every accessory comes in separate Mouse and Miniature sizes.

Some pieces, particularly food and smaller accessories, are made in just one size. This means they can sometimes look a little oversized when placed beside a Maileg mouse — and that's perfectly okay.

In fact, there can be a practical advantage to this slightly larger scale. Tiny cakes, groceries, kitchen pieces and other little treasures are easier for small hands to pick up and play with, and hopefully a little less likely to disappear into the mysterious place where all tiny toys eventually go.

So if the cheese looks enormous beside your mouse or the cake could feed the entire Mouse House Village, don't worry.

It's all part of the Maileg world.

What Age Is the Maileg Mouse Hole Farmhouse For?

The Maileg Mouse Hole Farmhouse is recommended for children aged 3 years and over.

Its open rooms make it lovely for imaginative play, with plenty of space for little hands to move mice, furniture and accessories around as their stories unfold.

As with all Maileg pieces, we recommend checking the age recommendation on each individual item you add to your Mouse House, particularly when choosing smaller accessories.

And the lovely thing about a Mouse Hole Farmhouse is that it doesn't have to be completed all at once.

A younger child might begin with a mouse, a bed and a few larger pieces of furniture. Then, as they grow, birthdays and Christmases can bring all those wonderful little details that gradually turn an empty farmhouse into a much-loved Maileg home.

The Easiest Way to Know if Something Will Fit

Before adding a piece to your Mouse Hole Farmhouse, there are three things we recommend checking.

Look at the product photographs.

Which character is Maileg showing with the furniture?

If mice are using it, that's a helpful indication that you're looking at something designed for the Mouse world.

Check the measurements.

Look at the height, width and depth of the individual piece, particularly with larger items such as kitchens, wardrobes, beds and couches.

Read the product description.

What Should I Buy First for the Mouse Hole Farmhouse?

You don't need a completely furnished farmhouse on day one.

In fact, we think half the fun is watching it grow.

Start With Somewhere to Sleep

Choose a Mouse bed and give your first resident somewhere to call their own.

A little lamp, bedside piece or wardrobe can come later.

Create a Kitchen

The kitchen is one of our favourite rooms in any Mouse House.

Start with a kitchen or cooking area and gradually add a table, chairs and those irresistible tiny food accessories.

Suddenly there is a whole new place for stories to happen.

Make a Living Room

Every mouse needs somewhere to put their feet up.

Start with a couch or chair and slowly add the little details around it.

Perhaps a coffee table.

A rug.

A lamp.

And, of course, a television.

Because apparently even Maileg mice enjoy an evening in front of the TV.

Don't Forget the Bathroom

A bathroom is another wonderful room to build gradually.

A toilet and bathtub are a lovely place to start, and this is also where understanding the difference between Mouse and Miniature sizing becomes particularly useful.

This is another area where the name on the product doesn't always tell the whole story.

Different Maileg prams and strollers work with different characters and scales, so we recommend looking at the measurements and the character shown with each one.

Can I Mix Mouse and Miniature Furniture?

Yes.

There are no decorating rules in a Mouse House.

But it's useful to understand the difference before you buy.

Miniature furniture will generally look larger beside your mice and within the Mouse Hole Farmhouse. Sometimes that's exactly the look you want.

We particularly love the idea of an oversized lamp in a Mouse House.

But whether a particular Miniature piece physically works in a room is something we prefer to check before recommending it.

Mouse Hole Farmhouse or House of Miniature?

If you're trying to decide between the two houses, think about who you want to live there and which furniture you love most.

If your collection is centred around the Maileg mice, Micro Bunnies and Rabbits and all the tiny Mouse furniture and accessories, the Mouse Hole Farmhouse is a wonderful choice.

If you're particularly drawn to the larger Miniature furniture, Size 1 and Size 2 Bunnies and Rabbits and the Teddy family, you may prefer the House of Miniature.
